Week 5: Shingles and Ventilation

I couldn't resist, so I had to go visit the house again this week!  The bricks were delivered, and they are supposed to start the brickwork on the house this week.  However, I'm betting that they won't start bricking the house until next week since it's supposed to rain the next few days.  The workers were working hard at putting the shingles on the house even with the impending storm looming in the distance.  There was also plastic all over the wood on the walls.  The ventilation system was complete, and the electrician was working on putting in the electrical wires today.  These workers definitely aren't slackers because this house building process is flying by!  I have been so grateful that we seem to have an awesome builder who wants to get the job done!  Here are pictures from today...

Monterrey Jack Barbeque Burger

I found this recipe on Pinterest, and we love it! This burger is so moist and juicy, not to mention DELICIOUS! I would definitely recommend cooking it on a George Foreman Grill because it falls apart on a regular grill since it's so moist.

Monterrey Jack Barbeque Burger

Ingredients
Ground Beef 85/15
Sesame Seed Buns
1/2 to 3/4 cup Monterrey Jack Cheese
1/2 cup Sweet Baby Ray's Barbeque Sauce
Seasoned Salt
Black Pepper
Onion Powder

DirectionsCombine the beef, cheese, BBQ sauce, salt, pepper, and onion powder. Shape patties that are about 1 inch thick. Push a 1/2 inch indent into the center of the patty to prevent the patty from becoming dome-shaped. Cook the patties on a George Foreman Grill. Once they are cooked, place the patties on a sesame seed bun, and ENJOY!

Week 5: Walls and Roof

This week they put up the walls and roof! The structure of the house is finally coming together. Because we are so ahead of schedule, the builder has moved up the completion date to the beginning of May! He said they would start the brickwork this week, and they would work on the floors next week. I love watching our house take shape, and I can't wait to move in. We rented a storage unit last week so we can store all of our stuff until the house is completed. Our lease is up on April 2nd, so the next two weeks will be full of packing, moving, and cleaning. Ryan is ecstatic about moving in with Nana for a month or two (probably because she is nicer than me). The house right behind ours recently sold, and I was able to meet our super sweet neighbor. She is also a nurse, and she has a 15-year-old daughter (hello, babysitter!). She seems like she will be a great neighbor to have! She also let me tour her house to get a few ideas for mine. Here are pictures from this week...

Week 4: Foundation and Framing

This week they poured the foundation and are working on the framing. The workers said they would have the top on the house by the end of the week! We are constantly amazed at how fast this house-building process is going! I am learning so much about building houses...it is truly an art. There is a lot more that goes into making a house than meets the eye. So much of it that I don't even begin to understand! I forgot to mention the expected completion date! The builder said he could build the house in 70 to 80 days from groundbreaking, which was March 1st. So 80 days from March 1st is May 20th. I can't believe our house will be done at the end of May (at least per the estimate and barring any really nasty weather). I expect with all the paper work the bank has to do and everything, we should be in the house by the beginning of June at latest. Oh, and our street finally has a name...Hanover Street! I can't wait to get into all the little details of the house that I get to pick out...light fixtures, granite, flooring, paint colors, etc. Here are pictures from this week...

Week 3: Footings

This week they are working on the footings of the house, which means the foundation will be poured soon! I'm so excited to see our house taking shape, but it looks pretty small when you can see the whole house laid out on the ground in front of you! Luckily, I know that this floor plan is plenty big for our family (approximately 1,650 square feet) since we previously bid on a house with the same floor plan. Here are pictures from this week...
